Yamaguchi University and AMATELUS Develop Japan’s First New DX Teaching Materials Using “Free-Viewpoint and Multi-Angle Video” for Clinical Practice
AMATELUS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Shinya Shimojo; hereinafter referred to as “AMATELUS”), in collaboration with Yamaguchi University (Headquarters: Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture; President: Yukio Tanizawa; hereinafter referred to as “Yamaguchi University”), a national university, has developed new DX teaching materials using “free viewpoint images and multi-angle images, etc.” for clinical practice for the first time in Japan.
Development of new DX teaching materials using "free-viewpoint and multi-angle video" for clinical practice for the first time in Japan
Yamaguchi University (hereafter referred to as “Yamaguchi University”), a national university, has been selected as a recipient of the “Plan for the Advancement of Education at Universities and Colleges of Technology Using Digital Technology” (Project for the Advancement of Education Using Digital Technology). The program promotes educational methods suitable for the new normal era, instead of the conventional face-to-face education due to the spread of COVID19. We have developed free-viewpoint video and multi-angle video that enables viewing the following four actions from multiple angles and in three dimensions, with the content designed to improve proficiency and equalize teaching materials.
- Clinical gowning and gloving
- Applying stitches (post-surgery closing)
- Dog restraint
- Protective gowning for BLS3
Development of teaching materials that allow students to learn from both "subjective" and "bird's eye" perspectives by mixing images from the teacher's point of view and from 360-degree surroundings
We developed educational materials that allow the viewer to confirm the “use of arms” and “use of body” when holding the dog from a 360-degree viewpoint, and to view and confirm more detailed gestures by adding the teacher’s viewpoint. This made it possible to develop teaching materials that measure the improvement of learning level by repeatedly viewing “subjective images” and “bird’s eye view images” that are occurring at the same time.
The user can view the video from various angles by slowing, stopping, and zooming.
By displaying the teacher’s point of view as an embedded angle, we have developed educational materials that allow you to view the 360-degree bird’s-eye view from the surrounding area while simultaneously viewing the subjective image.
We have developed a way to instantly display the main angle by tapping on the wipe angle.
The "post-operative stitching" video allows viewing "from the doctor's perspective" and "from a 180-degree angle of the doctor's hands."
In the post-operative stitching video, the free viewpoint angles allow the viewer to see the doctor’s hands from a 180-degree angle, and by adding the doctor’s viewpoint as an additional angle, we developed educational materials that allow the viewer to see the surgery from both “subjective” and “bird’s eye” perspectives.

Clinical Gowning / Gloving allows viewing from multiple angles
In clinical gowning/gloving, it is necessary for two people to put on the garment, so there were perspectives that could not be confirmed with video from a single point of view.
Protective gowning for BLS3
In the case of protective gowning for BLS3, we were able to increase the amount of information shown by developing educational materials using free-viewpoint images to provide angle information unavailable using a single shot, and to develop educational materials that make it easy to learn gowning methods in a single video.
In situations where remote instruction is necessary due to COVID19, the development of educational materials using free-viewpoint video has made it possible to provide powerful educational materials.
